Recycled water – Chisholm

Recycled Water Chisholm

Delivering recycled water to Chisholm on Tuesday 19 November 2019

The recycled water plants are now ready to provide you with recycled water and you will begin receiving it on Tuesday 19 November 2019.

Always use the water supplied through your recycled water (purple) taps for recycled water purposes only:

  • Toilet flushing
  • Washing cars, paths and external walls
  • Watering lawns and gardens, including fruit trees and vegetable gardens
  • Washing laundry in a washing machine

Recycled water reminders:

  1. Your recycled water meets the Australian Guidelines for Water Recycling. It’s treated to a very high standard and is disinfected. However, recycled water is not suitable for drinking, cooking, using in the kitchen, in the bathroom for bathing, showering, bidets, filling pools and spas, for children’s outdoor water play equipment.
  2. Only use a licensed plumber. This is to ensure that no ‘cross connections’ between the drinking water and recycled water plumber are accidentally made on your property.
  3. Check your recycled water plumbing has the correct fittings, labelling, is colour-coded (purple), and tap handles are removed when the taps are not in use. This will help ensure recycled water is used appropriately at your home.

*Residents of Thornton North: if you have a purple water meter we will contact you over coming months. Your suburb will continue to receive drinking water through your recycled water system until further notice.

Q & A

  • All of the new houses around my house do not have the purple meters. Does this mean we are not part of the recycled water program

PeterH asked over 1 year ago

Hi Peter, thanks for your question. The recycled water scheme covers existing homes which will already have a purple meter installed, plus a few new homes with a previously approved DA to connect to the recycled water scheme. Some homes had a DA approved with a rainwater tank, instead of a recycled water connection, to meet BASIX requirements. These homes with rainwater tanks will not be receiving recycled water and will not have a purple meter. Our plumbing contractor, H L Mullane, will soon be double-checking for meters along the streets. If you are not sure whether you will be receiving recycled water please email us here with your name and street address and we will confirm. Please let us know if we can assist further. Jen
