Delivering recycled water to Gillieston Heights from 31 May 2019

Shortly we will begin supplying recycled water from the Farley Treatment Plant to 772 homes in Gillieston Heights. These homes were fitted with dual water/recycled water systems when they were constructed, enabling them to meet BASIX requirements.

Recycled water is treated to a high level and must comply with Australian Guidelines for Water Recycling and the requirements of NSW Health. The tap fittings are generally purple, and has many uses.

It is great for flushing toilets, washing cars, watering gardens and machine washing clothes. It must not be used for drinking, cooking, bathing, or filling swimming pools.

    Planned water outages – Gillieston Heights

    There are three planned water supply outages in Gillieston Heights for the following times:

    1. From: 10pm on Tuesday 9 October Until: 4am on Wednesday 10 October

    2. From: 10pm on Thursday 11 October* Until: 4am on Friday 12 October*

    3. From: 10pm on Sunday 14 October* Until: 4am on Monday 15 October*

    *The second two water interruptions will only occur if we need more time to complete the work, however, customers should be prepared for these interruptions to go ahead.

    These outages are for water supplied via Hunter Water’s potable water and recycled...

    These essential water outages are to allow for checking of our mains as part of the preparation to introduce recycled water from the Farley Treatment plant to parts of Gillieston Heights.

    Note: Approximately 850 customers have been advised by letter (sent 27 September 2018) of these water outages.

    Hunter Water has appointed H L Mullane to complete the home inspections for approximately 770 customers in Gillieston Heights. These homes will begin receiving recycled water later in 2018. The home inspections are to ensure the recycled water plumbing system at each home is in good condition and there are no 'cross connections' with the drinking water supply.


    Mullane is one of the largest specialised contracting companies in NSW and employs more than 230 people. The company has been providing gas, plumbing, drainage, roofing and electrical services to Hunter customers since 1925, and has provided services to Hunter Water for...
