At Hunter Water, we know we need to do our part to #LoveWater too, which is why we’re actively looking for leaks across our entire network and other ways to minimise water losses. But we need your help to save water around the home.

Looking for some tips on how you can love of water?

  • Nearly half of all water consumed in the home is used in the bathroom, with the average shower using 55 litres of water. A four minute shower saves almost 20 litres of water.

  • Did you know 20 per cent of the Hunter’s drinking water is used on watering gardens and lawns? That adds up to a staggering 7.8 billion litres, or 3,100 Olympic swimming pools. Consider growing native plants as they require less watering.

  • Water the garden or lawn in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid evaporation, which ensures the soil stays wet longer.

  • Make sure taps are turned off tightly – a dripping tap can waste as much as 20,000 litres of water a year.
