Recycled water – Thornton North

Recycled Water Chisholm

Recycled water will soon be supplied to residents in Thornton North with recycled water (purple) meters. These customers have been receiving drinking water through their recycled water pipes.

This project is an extension of the scheme which provides recycled water to approximately 1,000 customers in Chisholm and Gillieston Heights. It is part of our program to reduce unnecessary use of drinking water and meet the future water needs of our community. Homes with recycled water use on average 40% less drinking water each year.

Only properties inside the already approved recycled water precinct will be connected to the recycled water network. These properties will already have recycled water plumbing installed. Recycled water pipes, meters and fittings are purple so they can be easily identified.

A new 2km pipeline will be constructed from Chisholm to Thornton North to supply the recycled water to the new customers. Construction of this pipeline will begin in early September and should be completed by December 2020. To see where the pipeline will be constructed see Maps, diagrams and photos and Pipeline construction - route and timeframes. If you live or own property along where the new pipeline is being constructed, we will be in touch with you soon.

Recycled water is water that has been used before and is treated to remove impurities in compliance with the NSW Health guidelines.

*If you have a purple water meter we will contact you very soon to organise plumbing inspections and answer any questions you may have. You will continue to receive drinking water through your recycled water system until further notice.
