Wyee Sewer

The NSW Government and Hunter Water are delivering a $30 million project to provide sewer services to properties in the Wyee township.
When completed, sewer connections will be provided to 400 existing homes and businesses with the capacity to cater for developments in future residential subdivisions and surrounding areas. View the project map to see which properties are included in the scheme.
The sewer scheme will replace existing on-property septic systems, and aims to reduce environmental and public health concerns and improve service reliability. View the Concept Designs for the reticulated mains, pump stations and manholes in our document library.
Construction commenced in mid-2019 and the system is expected to be ready for connection to residential homes by early 2021.

Community update - February 2021
Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link15 Feb 2021The NSW Government and Hunter Water funded Wyee Sewer Scheme is nearing completion, with the first stage of construction to provide sewer services to properties in the Wyee township in its final stages. Hunter Water will formally advise customers when they are able to connect to the system, however it is still likely to be March 2021.
System testing is underway
The system has been tested at connection points and between manholes. Once the pump stations are complete, the whole system will be tested prior to commissioning. The testing may lead to additional work during the commissioning phase of the project.
Second stage of the scheme
The second stage of the scheme will be the transfer main from Wyee to Morriset. This will transfer the sewage to the Dora Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility. Works will commence on this pipeline mid-2021 with completion expected mid-2022. During this construction Hunter Water will be tankering the wastewater out of Wyee.
Connecting to the sewer booklet
In December 2020 our team hand delivered a ‘connecting to the sewer’ booklet outlining the steps Wyee property owners need to take to connect to the sewer system. You can also download the booklet here.

Wyee Sewer project delay
Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link16 Nov 2020Hunter Water and Monadelphous (our authorised contractor) are currently finalising the construction of the Wyee Sewer Scheme.
This has been a significant project and we would like to sincerely thank the Wyee community for working with us during the planning and construction phases. Your cooperation and understanding has been very much appreciated while we move through the complexities of constructing sewer in a built up area.
The project has been impacted by both large rain events and COVID-19 restrictions. We were hoping to be in the testing phase by now to enable connections to the network by the end of the 2020 however construction of the pumping stations is still progressing. Once construction is complete we will be testing the entire sewer network to check for leaks and defects. It is important that no one connections to the system until this testing is complete. Currently completion of testing is expected end of February 2021, pending further delays.
In the coming weeks the Wyee Community will receive further information from Hunter Water explaining the connection process. This will include advice on engaging a plumber and getting quotes, disconnecting your septic tanks and applying to Hunter Water for a connection.
Monadelphous will also continue to be distributing construction updates and information to residents for the duration of the project. Monadelphous can be contacted via their 24 hour hotline on 1800 450 500.

Construction remains on track during pandemic
Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link17 Jul 2020Despite the challenges raised by the COVID-19 pandemic, our contractor Monadelphous has now completed 70 per cent of the Wyee pipeline work, having laid more than 8km of the 11km network.
The construction crews have been practising social distancing on the work site and during meetings with landowners. They’re now continuing these practices as they work in Jilliby Street, Wyee Road, Bukkai Street, Munmorah Street, Wallarah Street, Boikonumba Road and Summerhayes Road.
Construction of the pump station in Wallarah Street is also underway. Once operational, it will store the South section of Wyee's sewerage below ground and then transfer it to the second pump station on Karagi Street.
In the coming months, surveyors will be visiting almost every street in the project area to complete final surveying and pipeline testing. Restoration works will occur once construction is complete and testing has occurred.
While we have encountered some difficult site conditions in the last few months, the work remains on track for completion in December 2020.
A massive thank you to Wyee residents for your continued patience and cooperation as we work to deliver this important project in your area.

Project on track for Dec 2020 delivery
Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link09 Mar 2020Hunter Water's contractor, Monadelphous, are making great progress on the Wyee Sewer construction. Over 4km of pipe has been laid out of the 11km network, and we are on track for commissioning the system in December 2020.
Work has also begun at the two pump station sites, with the activity scheduled to increase in the coming months.
While we have received some much needed rain over the last few months, unfortunately some issues arose with driveways and streets that the contractor had been working in. Monadelphous have been working hard to restore any damage and property owners are encouraged to contact them if they have any concerns (1800 450 500).
Hunter Water will be doing more sewer connection education closer to the commissioning date, and will be in touch with property owners.
A big thankyou also to all of the Wyee residents and property owners for working collaboratively with us and being patient through such disruptive construction.

This week, Monadelphous Engineering Pty Ltd was awarded the contract to construct the sewer infrastructure to service the Wyee Township on behalf of Hunter Water. Monadelphous brings extensive experience in water-related infrastructure, recently completing projects on behalf of Sydney Water.
Key dates
With the contract now awarded, work will progress immediately on the detailed design of the system. The design process is expected to be complete by September 2019.

We expect you will be able to connect to the new sewer by December 2020.
Design process
Detailed design is the process of developing and finalising the approved concept design. It will confirm exactly where each component of the new sewer scheme will be constructed and will give us a clearer view of the full impacts of the project and how Wyee residents may be affected by the work.
During detailed design residents may notice contractors inspecting the various locations where future construction may take place. We may need to access some private properties to complete this work, and we will contact the property owner if we need to arrange entry to a property.
